Manchester United will look to make inroads into Manchester City's lead at the top of the English Premier League when they travel to St Mary's to face Southampton on Sunday. Southampton only have one win so far this season, and United will be confident of claiming three points today. 

In their most recent league match, United returned to winning ways, securing a 3–1 victory over Liverpool. 

Before that, the Red Devils started their campaign with back-to-back 1–0 victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. 

Following a good start, the Red Devils, however, had their early success derailed with a scoreless draw facing Newcastle United and a defeat to Swansea City (2–1) before the win against Liverpool. 

The biggest news for United is the loss of left-back Luke Shaw who suffered a terrible injury in a defeat to PSV Eindhoven in their most recent match in the Champions League. 

Shaw had a double fracture in his right leg and has already undergone surgery, according to BBC Sport. 

BBC Sport also reported that in Shaw's absence, Argentine Marcos Rojo will likely be the one stepping up with captain Wayne Rooney and midfielder/forward Marouane Fellaini returning. 

Coming into this weekend, United sit in third spot in the Premier League table with 10 points, tied with Arsenal. 

Meanwhile, Southampton's only win in this season of the Premier League was against Norwich City (3–0). 

The Saints' first match was a 2–2 draw with Newcastle, followed by a 3–0 defeat to Everton, and a scoreless draw with Watford. 

Southampton is in the middle of the table with six points tied with Tottenham and Watford.
