Manny Pacquiao next fight update: Floyd Mayweather rematch or Kell Brooks?

Manny Pacquiao, currently under fire for allegedly hiding his injury prior to his monumental fight with unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., is not expected to be in action for a while.

For those who haven't heard, Pacquiao will be undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator calf on his right shoulder. The surgery will sideline the Filipino boxer for at least 6 months before he can consider any new opponents.

Despite the setback, Pacquiao's team continues to plan ahead. And among the fighter he may face next include Kell Brooks, the IBF welterweight champion.

The 29 year old Brooks will be getting into the ring this coming May 30 where he will face Frankie Gavin at the O2 Arena. Bob Arum is said to be currently negotiation with Eddie Hearn about the said fight.

But all this was planned before Mayweather publicly announced that he would be open to a rematch once Pacquiao is back to full health. Pacquiao seems to be more inclined for a rematch with Mayweather, something he and his camp were asking after losing via controversial unanimous decision.

The only thing that could hinder this is on whether the world would be interested in a Mayweather-Pacquiao II. The world claims that they were robbed of their money's worth which may somehow lower the interest of boxing fans.

Another issue tied up to it is the fact that the MGM Grand is reportedly having second thoughts of hosting the fight. While the mega bout did rack in millions, the thing is many were displeased with the way the fight went. The revelation of Pacquiao fighting hurt aggravated it all the more.

Hence, a Pacquiao-Brook setto could very well depend on who Pacquiao decides to face first – him or Mayweather. If he chooses a rematch with Floyd, chances are Brook would have until the later part of 2016 for a match. This is of course with the understanding that Pacquiao is back at 100% and, God forbid, he suffers another injury.
