Manny Pacquiao is recovering very well from the shoulder surgery he had last May and will possibly be back in the ring early next year to face British top contender Amir Khan.

Pacquiao and Khan are itching to face the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. but the latter selected Andre Berto for possibly the final fight of his career next month.

As both failed to get a bout against the no. 1 pound-for-pound king, Pacquiao's promoter Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said he would be presenting the idea of a fight against Khan to the former eight-division champion.

According to Sky Sports, Arum already spoke to Khan about a possible fight with Pacquiao in 2016.

"This takes time and I will present everything to Manny and we'll see what happens," Arum told Boxing Scene.

Khan already said before that he is willing to take on Pacquiao and believes their fighting styles will lead to an exciting contest.

A Pacquiao-Khan matchup will be an intriguing bout because they are former sparring and stablemates under trainer in Freddie Roach.

Roach is still Pacquiao's coach while Khan left his tutelage and since then has been under Virgil Hunter who is also Berto's trainer.

A younger Khan will be a tough challenge for Pacquiao who looks to return to his winning ways following the unanimous decision defeat suffered in the hands of rival Mayweather last May.

It will also be an opportunity for Pacquiao to show that he still has the speed and power that knocked out his previous foes.

The last time the Filipino  slugger won via knockout was in 2009 when he defeated Miguel Cotto.

Meanwhile, for Khan, a victory will truly establish him as an elite contender and it may get him a fight against Mayweather, whom many people believe will not be retiring from the sport after facing Berto.
