'Mario Kart Tour' news: 'Mario Kart' to go mobile next fiscal year

A new "Mario Kart" title is on its way for smartphones. Nintendo of America announced the coming of the mobile application "Mario Kart Tour" within the next fiscal year.

Fans of the racing video game series are going crazy after seeing Nintendo's Twitter post. "The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019," Nintendo of America tweeted. The announcement made headlines, and fans are now asking for more details about the video game. Nintendo is yet to announce the title's exact release date that will fall on a date within April 2018 to March 2019.

Nintendo just released its latest sales reports, and a few "Mario Kart" titles are among the company's best-sellers for various consoles. Over 7.33 million "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" units for the Nintendo Switch were sold worldwide. For the Wii U, 8.40 million units were sold and 37.02 million of "Mario Kart Wii" for the Wii. The "Mario Kart 7" for the Nintendo 3DS is also doing well with 16.76 million being sold.

Fans of the video game franchise are now monitoring updates from Nintendo regarding "Mario Kart Tour" and its content.

The latest installment to the series "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" for the Switch was a big hit. The title got two nominations from the 2017 Game Awards, Best Family Game and Best Multiplayer. The game also got perfect and nearly perfect scores from video game experts. TrustedReviews gave the game a perfect score of 10, 9.3 from IGN, and a 92 percent score rating from Metacritic.

"Mario Kart Tour" is not the only anticipated installment to the iconic video game franchise. The tennis video game "Mario Tennis Aces" is coming this year.
