Actor and TV host Mario Lopez shared a moving experience with his fans while visiting Jerusalem in recent days. He received the sacrament of baptism in the Jordan River, in the same place where Jesus Christ was baptized thousands of years ago.

Lopez shared the video of his baptism on Twitter. He shared that he also witnessed a Catholic priest giving a sermon on the river before he attested his faith and was submerged in the water. A crowd gathered at the site and sang while people, including Lopez, were baptized.

"Thank you! Beautiful people here, helping me, thank you. This is awesome! Wow!" Lopez exclaimed in the video. "Just got baptized in the Jordan River. Hallelujah."

The "Saved By the Bell" star had also been to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre prior to his baptism. In a series of tweets and videos, Lopez explained to his followers the significance of the site he visited by going through the same routes that Jesus Christ took before his crucifixion.

Lopez grew up in a large Mexican Catholic family in California. The "Extra" host is also proud of his Catholic upbringing, which he passed on to his two children with wife Courtney Mazza, who also grew up a Catholic.

In 2015, the actor spoke to the press about building his spirituality. He said that as he is getting older, consistency is becoming more important in his life and he believes he gets this from family and faith.

"We try to go to church as a family every week, sometimes without the baby, because babies will act up. If not, my daughter and I will go every week," the actor told Parents in another interview. "It's really important to me that they get a faith-based education," the actor added when asked about raising his children, Gia and Dominic, as Catholics.
