Months ago, rumors around the internet were suggesting that a new full-length movie of "Mario" will be coming out soon. Now, Nintendo just recently confirmed it, and they are partnering up with Illumination, the studio behind successful movies such as the "Despicable Me" series and its spinoff, "Minions."

Nintendo also took to Twitter to share some technical details about the movie. "Nintendo and Illumination are partnering on a movie starring Mario, co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri," reads the tweet. Miyamoto is one of the company's lead game directors while Meledandri is the CEO of Illumination.

That said, fans would know that they are at least taking this movie seriously. This is also interesting to note since the last "Mario" movie was back in 1993. Back then, it was made into a live-action movie. Fans would especially know how bad the movie was. The director, Rocky Morton, even recently calls it as "a harrowing experience." "It was hell," he described.

Given that Illumination would be co-producing the new movie, it would be animated this time. Universal Studios would be in charge of distributing the movie when it comes out. Aside from these details, not much else was said about the movie.

The "Super Mario" franchise is one that many have grown up with. Mario and the gang have been made into different games, clothing, cereal boxes, and what not. Possibly, the only one left they will need to find success in is the movie industry. More details about this new "Mario" movie will be coming out soon. There is undeniably a lot of doubt about it, but hopefully, Nintendo and Illumination get to prove their fans wrong.

In other Nintendo news, they have been recently releasing a lot of new content. After the Nintendo Labo a few weeks ago, they have also announced a new service called Nintendo Switch Online and, even more recently, a new "Mario Kart" mobile game coming out next year.
