'Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash' news: Game supports amiibo and online multiplayer mode

Nintendo website

Nintendo has released new details about its upcoming new Mario tennis title for the Wii U.

In a post on the official Nintendo website, new details emerged about the upcoming "Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash." One of the most noted new features of the upcoming tennis Wii U title is its amiibo support. With this feature, players can use their amiibo figurines to call on characters on-screen and compete in either AI-controlled Knockout Challenge sets, or as partners in online doubles matches. The amiibo support for the tennis title also helps in accumulating points for the amiibo. The more the amiibo figurines are used in the title, the more they gain experience and skills points.

However, not all amiibo figurines are supported. According to the post, the current amiibo lineup for the Wii U tennis title only includes "Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Yarn Yoshis, Rosalina, Wario, Toad and Donkey Kong."

It was not mentioned if Nintendo plans to expand the list of amiibo characters to be support for "Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash" in future updates.

The announcement also touched on online content for the game. Apparently, online matches will be possible for the tennis titles. Players who want to test their skills with other tennis hardcore fans around the world can play competitively and get ranked via the Classic Tennis or Mega Battle game modes. The online multiplayer support can also be used in doubles matches, and players can either team up with another player in the same console, or use a supported amiibo character as doubles partner in an online match.

Aside from detailing the new features on the website, the new details can also be seen on the new trailer for the upcoming title.

"Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash" is slated to be released on Nov. 20 for the Wii U console.
