Casting Crown's Mark Hall is recovering well but "still in a good bit of pain" after his kidney operation, his wife Melanie has said.

Mark announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this month and asked fans to pray for his operation.

In a status update on the Casting Crowns Facebook page Melanie wrote: "The Dr is pleased with Mark's recovery progress so far. Not so sure that Mark agrees with that statement yet. He's doing ok, but it was a tough day and he's still in a good bit of pain. The good news is that they say that Day 1 after surgery is always the toughest and we now have that one behind us. They say it can only go up from here."

She said in the message which was posted late on Thursday evening that they would find out on Friday how much longer he would have to stay in hospital.

Melanie added that they were grateful for the surgeon, Dr Lee, who she said was probably "the most prayed for doctor on the planet" on Wednesday when Mark had his operation.

She told the doctor about the prayer support they had received from fans, he responded with "a big ole smile", she said.

"Thankful for him and his gift," Melanie wrote. "Everyone I've talked to in the hospital and community are impressed when they hear that Dr Lee is Mark's Surgeon. Would you do me a favor and keep praying for him when you think of it?"

Melanie also asked for continued prayers for Mark. "Please pray for continued favor with Doctors and hospital staff. Please also pray that his pain will reduce significantly and soon," she said.

Mark's daughter Reagan made a poster, which says 'To my hero... forever thankful for your love'Facebook

She said that she was mindful "that God is the Great I AM and that I count it such a privilege to be part of the Church, the Body of Christ."

She finished the message by saying how encouraged she has been by the support they have received.

"I've not seen a better picture of the hands and feet of Jesus than in the way you guys have encircled our family with your love, encouragement, and prayers," she said.

Melanie included in the status update a picture of their daughter Reagan holding a poster she had made for Mark.
