The latest update of the popular fighting game "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" has introduced a new bug that could potentially erase the saved games of Xbox One players. Although the bug only occurs under a specific set of circumstances, game developer Capcom has nonetheless informed its players on how to avoid it.

The new issue arose after the Dec. 5 content update that Capcom rolled out. The bug could affect Xbox One players using a physical copy of the game if certain conditions are met. According to Capcom, players will only encounter the problem if they have save data from the updated version of the game, then try to load it on an older version.

"The only situation where you will encounter this bug is if you have updated the game and have save data from the latest update, but later uninstall the game then reinstall from the disc and attempt to use the save data without having applied the update," said Capcom.

If this happens, the game will not be able to read the save file as a compatible one and will prompt the player to create a new file. If the player chooses to do so, the saved game will be deleted.

In case players encounter the situation wherein the reinstalled game is not able to read the saved data, players should not choose to create a new one. Instead, they only need to update the game to the latest version and it would be able to read the saved data properly.

The bug only affects a small portion of "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's" player base, and it would easily be prevented by following the proper steps.

Unfortunately, Capcom has not come up with a fix for the problem, nor did they indicate that the developers are working on one. For now, players using a physical copy of the game just need to be careful and keep their games updated to avoid this problem.
