"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will have a new series regular when it returns for its fifth season later this year, as actress Natalia Cordova-Buckley gets promoted to regular cast.

The actress portrays the character of Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, an Inhuman who has the incredible ability to move in superspeed for the brief duration of a heartbeat. After that time, she will be yanked back to her original position, hence the nickname "Yo-Yo."

Executive Producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell offered praises for Cordova-Buckley. "Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor," they said in a statement released by Marvel.

"Natalia was instantly a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set," they added, "And we're happy she's now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team."

"Yo-Yo" was first introduced in season 3 of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," during the episode titled "Bouncing Back." In Season 4, the character moved from Colombia to the U.S. to do more work with the team.

During this season, the character developed a romantic relationship with Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie, played by Henry Simmons. The lovers, along with the rest of the team, were kidnapped and taken to outer space.

Cordova-Buckley will be joining the rest of the cast in a season 5 panel at the New York Comic-Con. The team will be joined by Marvel TV executive Jeph Loeb. At the event, the team is expected to reveal some exclusive new footage from the upcoming season.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will begin airing this November. It will have a delayed start to give way to the miniseries "Marvel's Inhumans." Despite the delayed start, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will still have a full season of 22 episodes.
