Ava DuVernay will reportedly take on the role of directing the new Marvel movie "Black Panther".

Reports about Selma director DuVernay being considered for the directing role started surfacing in May via The Wrap. However, an exclusive report from MCU Exchange recently stated that Marvel Studios has now hired DuVernay for the job.

According to the report, part of the reason why the female director was "hired" in advance was to allow her to be present during the set of Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming.

Furthermore, the report also stated that Black Panther and the fictional African nation Wakanda will be featured in Civil War.

Despite rumors circulating about DuVernay's role in Black Panther, it still remains only that - rumors - as Marvel has yet to make any official announcement.

Throwing doubt on the reports, shortly after the MCU Exchange report surfaced, Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit tweeted that DuVernay has not even received a job offer from Marvel yet.

Kit said in his tweet "My sources tell me Ava Duvernay doesn't even have an offer to direct BLACK PANTHER (yet, at least) so people should relax a bit."

The Wrap initially reported that Marvel had talks with DuVernay about taking control in one of the comic book films.

Whether or not the rumors are true, DuVernay would still be a popular choice for the role among fans because she has a "more diverse perspective" and possesses "strong vision", according to Vanity Fair.

Black Panther is set to release in July 2018, with Chadwick Boseman of Get on Up taking on the lead role.

If the unconfirmed reports are true, DuVernay will be the first woman and first African-American to direct a Marvel superhero film.
