'Mass Effect Andromeda' gameplay, release date: fans can expect 'unique' protagonist and some fierce bad guys

"Mass Effect Andromeda" will introduce a unique set of new characters. Bioware

Bioware prefers to tease morsels of details about "Mass Effect Andromeda" instead of providing official details. This is especially true in the latest batch of updates about the game from the developers.

Lead designer Ian Frazier updated gamers about the development progress involving the characters in the highly anticipated shooter by praising his team for their work on Commander Shepard's replacement.

"It's really awesome to see all the effort the team is putting into making our new protagonist feel fresh and unique," Frazier tweeted.

As for the baddies in the new "Mass Effect" title, Bioware game producer Fabrice Condominas hinted on Twitter that they will be forces to be reckoned with. "That was a good week for our bad guys. You need good enemies to enjoy victory," he tweeted. Other folks involved in "Mass Effect Andromeda" tweeted back, including his fellow producer Michael Gamble and Bioware general manager Aaryn Flynn.

There's virtually no information about the new central character in "Mass Effect Andromeda" apart from the teaser that he or she will be called a Pathfinder.

Previous leaks, however, peg the new lead as an inexperienced explorer who will earn skills and grow as a voyager as he or she battles and befriends new breed of aliens.

As per reports, new enemies look a lot like a combination of the dreaded Vorcha and Collectors. There will reportedly be a human antagonist as well.

As far as solid details about the game, Bioware appears to be saving up the big guns. Gamble, who noticed a quick increase in the number of his followers on Twitter, hinted that more news about "Mass Effect Andromeda" will be unveiled soon.

"Mass Effect Andromeda" is expected to be showcased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 next month. Its launch was pushed from holiday 2016 to early 2017.
