'MasterChef' season 6 episode 12 spoilers: Contestants cooking for families

It will be a family affair in the upcoming episode of "MasterChef" season 6.Facebook/Fox

The home cooks will get emotional as they prepare food for their families in the upcoming episode of Fox's hit reality show "MasterChef," Cartermatt reports.

In "Family Reunion," the judges tasked the remaining ten contestants to cook meals for VIP diners, who turned out to be their families. TV Guide also reveals that the losing ones will be involved in a pressure test of making gnocchi with brown butter and sage sauce.

Last episode was a steak challenge. Each team of five cooks served 101 cowboys and ranchers in a ranch 70 miles north of the MasterChef Kitchen. As they had the top two dishes in the previous challenge, Hetal and Katrina were chosen as the team leaders.

Hetal's group went for flavor and cooked a hanger steak served with a chimichurri sauce, a warm potato salad, and grilled zucchini. Gordon told them that the last side dish did not fit the "hearty meal" that the men of the west were used to. Meanwhile, Katrina's Blue Team had New York strip with green beans, a sweet potato mash, and a roasted red pepper sauce.

Katrina's leadership proved to be the more effective between the two, and her group breezed through the challenge, winning by a landslide. Meanwhile, the Red Team faced the dreaded pressure test where the cooks had to make a perfect fruit tart. Hetal, Shelley, Olivia, Christopher, and Stephen were the only ones to face the judges after Olivia was saved.

Stephen, who was taking his first pressure, went into pieces after the crust of his blueberry tart with apricot glaze cracked. On the other hand, the crust of Christopher's strawberry, blueberry, mint, and lemon tart was great, but his cream was runny. Both tasted delicious, though. Shelly's classic tart with berries and vanilla pastry cream was slightly undercooked, as well as Hetal's cardamom vanilla cream tart with a raspberry jam glaze.

The judges were faced with a dilemma as nobody had perfected the tart. In a surprise move, they decided not to eliminate anyone.

"MasterChef" season 6 airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
