Showtime's period drama series "Masters of Sex" just returned with its third season and already, viewers are treated to the explosive news that Virginia "Ginny" Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) is pregnant with Bill Masters' (Michael Sheen) child.

In the next episode titled "Three's a Crowd," Ginny and Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald) will be seen coming to terms with the situation. TV Guide also reports that Bill will take on a high-profile client.

After a four-year time jump, season 3 opened with Ginny and Bill trying to prevent their strange passionate affair from cooling off while riding into the sexual revolution that had swept the country. While they struggled to get their work accepted in the past, the wave had propelled their new book to the spotlight and was in the brink of being published.

Flashback to four months before, the two were still working with dysfunctional couples in the Reproductive Biology Research Foundation. After work, they decided to join Libby and the kids for a weekend of "R and R" by the lake. Viewers now saw how the children had grown.

Ginny's brood was at a difficult stage. Henry (Noah Robbins) had discovered the joys of sex and had put off going to college. Tessa (Isabelle Fuhrman) just started having her period and exploring her womanhood while Bill's oldest son John (Jaeden Lieberher) was at odds with his father.

In the family cabin, Libby found Ginny alone in bed and decided to confront her. Bill's wife told Bill's partner that she knew about the affair and that she only had one request - to not break up her family.

Cut to four months later, Ginny and Bill were answering questions thrown by the reporters at the press conference when Ginny suddenly dashed to the bathroom to vomit. That was when Billy and the viewers knew that she was pregnant.

In an interview with Deadline, Sheen hinted on what is in store for his character Bill in season 3.

"Bill is on a sort of a journey of change, as a man anyway, and so this season a number of things happen early on, one being this public recognition, but also something changes between him and his son. That creates some changes for him. There are lots of changes coming down the line for him."

"Masters of Sex" airs Sunday at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime.
