With all of the sexual harassment controversies surrounding the former "Today" show host, Matt Lauer, it has recently been reported that Lauer's ex-wife, Nancy Alspaugh, has come forward to defend his name. Alspaugh is the second person to attempt to clear Lauer's name after Geraldo Rivera.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Alspaugh revealed that she was surprised to hear the kind of controversy that had befallen Lauer. "He's been the best person that's ever held that job and I couldn't imagine that anything that he would have done -- that would have been so out of character for him -- that would have caused that reaction," stated Alspaugh.

She continued to describe Lauer as a pleasant human being who is always willing to help others. For those reasons, it is quite clear that she never thought that Lauer would be accused by multiple women of sexual harassment. In fact, according to Us Weekly, Alspaugh pointed out that Lauer had even donated a significant amount of money to her nonprofit organization, long after they were divorced.

Alspaugh continued stating that given what has been happening in the entertainment industry in the past few months, numerous cases relating to sexual harassment will definitely come to light — "whether it's true or not." According to Hollywood Life, Alspaugh attempted to reach out to Lauer and his current wife, Annette Roque. However, Lauer and his family have not been able to respond to Alspaugh yet.

Alspaugh has also pointed out that allegations such as these can be very detrimental, not only to a person's career but for their family as well. Those who come forward need to be careful about the kind of information that they release. If all of Alspaugh's statements are true, then Lauer is definitely somebody worth investigating before his reputation is destroyed completely.
