Video game company Piranha Games shocked its fans when they announced that the old classic game, "MechWarrior," will be given a new title within 2018, 18 years after the last title in the franchise.

Although the release date is still a bit far off, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock mentioned that the game will be available a year from now by, December of 2018. The game will feature a co-op mode allowing up to four players to join the player's quests around different planets. When it releases, it will also enable full mod support for those who want to tinker with the game a bit using Steam Workshop.

The announcement of the new "MechWarrior 5" was made during the MechCon 2017. During the time, they had a booth that already showed a working game as a sort of preview to it. Prior to its release, "MechWarrior Online" fans have been clamoring for a single-player kind of experience, as per IGN. The company's answer to the request is rather delayed, but Piranha Games assures that they would not disappoint with "MechWarrior 5."

President Bullock himself says that the game is "[t]he same kind of action simulator that people have been wanting for 15 years." Hopefully, fans get to see this during the game's release. As for its story mode/campaign mode, the missions will start off in the year 3015 within the game's timeline, as per Polygon. The whole campaign mode will be set within 35 years of the game's timeline as well, so fans can expect a lot of missions needed to be done.

As of now, not much else can be said about how the game works or what the story will be. Even the "trial" during the MechCon only showed a bit of the combat mechanics, which are definitely promising. With a year to go, a lot could still change.

Fans can be updated with all of these through the official website dedicated to the new game.
