MediaTek could soon be the chipset that will power most of the premium smartphones to be released next year.

The chipset was already revealed in May this year, according to PhoneArena, but recent Geekbench results provided the public an idea of what the MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 can offer.

The MediaTek Helio X20 did not receive much attention compared to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, but the test results show that the deca-core processor is an impressive chipset.

Based on the results, the chipset was tested on a device only dubbed as "alps mt6797" and the tests were done ten times on Dec. 23. Interestingly, the results were all consistent.

The scores for the multi-core section were mostly at 6,900 and above, almost reaching 7,000. But the highest score was seen at 7,037. It is assumed that the chipset has a performance superior to that of the existing Snapdragon 810, Apple A9, and Exynos 7420.

On the other hand, the single-core scores were not that impressive, with the numbers seen only at around 2,100. This only means that MediaTek's upcoming chipset cannot compete with Apple 9 and Snapdragon 820's 2,576 and 2,320, respectively.

Meanwhile, one device that is set to receive a MediaTek Helio X20 has been revealed. The UMi Zero 2 is said to carry the chipset and it will be the first from the company that sports a deca-core processor supported by 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.

According to Fudzilla, the Umi Zero 2 will be released sometime in the second quarter of 2016. People won't really know how powerful or impressive the Helio X20 is until this device gets released or until other devices, which will carry the chipset, arrives earlier than the Zero 2.

People should just sit tight to see which phone will first get to show off the power of Helio X20.
