Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar finally broke their silence regarding their son Josh Duggar's molestation scandal. Their interview with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, which aired on Wednesday, June 3, was the first time that anyone from the Duggar family spoke about the controversy, and Kelly detailed how she was able to get the much sought-after exclusive interview that everyone has been waiting to see. 

The anchor of "The Kelly File" told Deadline that she reached out to the Duggars and convinced them that she was the best for the job. 

She said, "I specifically told their representative, 'You know my reputation. I've never been accused of giving anyone a pass, and I'm not going to give them a pass. If you want a soft place to fall, I'm not your person.'" 

Kelly went on to tell the family's rep that it is a service to them to have her ask them the tough questions. 

On Wednesday, Kelly told The Wrap that her intentions were probably what prompted the Duggars to choose her over other journalists or TV hosts. She said that she told the Duggars that she was going to be asking them the tough questions. 

"But I will be fair, and you will be permitted to answer and offer context. And it will not be a 'gotcha' or an attempt to bring down the Duggars…That is not my role," she told the website. 

Kelly said that she understands why the Duggars are breaking their silence, as she looks at it as an opportunity for the family to move forward with their lives. She said that the family knows that their show, "19 Kids and Counting," and their reputation are on the line. 

"I think they needed to speak to somebody and get their story out," said Kelly.

Kelly's interview with the Duggars will continue on Friday, June 5, as she talks to Jill and Jessa Duggar, who recently revealed in "The Kelly File" preview of their interview that they are among Josh's molestation victims.
