When CES 2015 commenced in Las Vegas, BMW was not the only automaker present at the event intending to woo the crowd with its smart car concept. Mercedes-Benz was also proud to showcase its F 015 "Luxury in Motion" vehicle, which is comprised of an aesthetically mesmerizing chassis coupled with a passenger compartment.

According to the luxury automaker, Mercedes-Benz has termed the passenger compartment as a lounge-like cabin. This is because the vehicle possesses four rotating seats that can face each other. In addition to the spacious passenger compartment and rotating seats, the Mercedes-Benz F 015 also features an array of displays that allow the driver to control the vehicle's maneuvering functions.

Furthermore, additional elements such as ambient lighting and entertainment controls can be executed using gestures and eye tracking, which are features similar to BMW's smart car offering. But one prominent feature present in the Mercedes-Benz F 015 is a pair of LED lights at the front and at the rear side of the car that change color depending on the car's current driving mode. For example, when the light is white, then the car is in manual driving mode and if the LED lighting is blue, then the F 015 is in self-driving mode.

Also, the material that is used to make the chassis of the F 015 is extremely light to allow for proper control of the car when driving in manual mode. The extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic delivers a potent combination of lightweight material plus durability.

The F 015 is also able to accommodate hydrogen fuel cells, which, according to research, are extremely volatile when they react with the environment but are able to deliver unmatched fuel output and efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz has stated that its self-driving cars will appear starting next year and that the automaker is partnering with tech firms to ensure that additional optimizations are assimilated with the vehicle's self-driving functionality.
