"Metal Gear Solid 5" has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and according to at least one Konami executive, all the hype will be justified.

In an interview with MCV, Konami Marketing Executive Jon Edwards touted the virtues of the upcoming game, and even went so far as to make the bold proclamation that "Metal Gear Solid 5" will indeed be known as "Game of the Year" when it is all said and done.

As for what evidence Edwards is using is to back up his audacious claims, he points to what kind of experience the game can offer in terms of its depth and scope. Edwards said that during the game, players will find themselves in situations wherein they will question if the game will allow them to do something, and then be surprised that they are in fact allowed to do that.

The Konami executive also talked about the missions inside the game, and according to him, although these elements do intend to keep players on a certain path, they are not restrictive at all, giving everyone the choice to finish a specific mission however they see fit.

Edwards also talked about game creator Hideo Kojima during the interview.

First off, Edwards talked about how "Metal Gear Solid 5" is basically the culmination of Kojima's vision in terms of what a game should be.

He also talked about the future prospects of the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise and what that means for Kojima, according to Gamespot. Although Edwards did say that Konami has already decided to move forward with making future iterations of the game, he ultimately refrained from providing any specifics as it relates to what all of this ultimately means for Kojima.

"Metal Gear Solid 5" will be available starting Sept. 1.
