'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' issues: A bug deletes saved files

Konami

Game company Konami released "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" last week. However, although the title is praised as one of the best to date in Hideo Kojima's series, there are still some kinks that weren't ironed out when the game was launched. One particularly nasty bug was even noted as a "game breaker" glitch.

According to reports, when activated, the bug is liable to delete player save files, and even stops the game from progressing entirely. Moreover, the glitch is found on all versions of the game, so the bug is not platform-specific and players using PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and PC are all likely to experience the problem.

The glitch activates when players use Quiet in missions 29 and 42. However, it seems that the glitch is not present in all copies of "The Phantom Pain" as other players answered Konami Europe's tweet that they have used Quiet on these missions and not only did they survive, the game and story also progressed without consequences.

Quiet is one of several buddies that can be partnered with Big Boss in the game. A sniper rifle marksman, Quiet can be handy as a companion particularly for missions with a high concentration of enemies. Aside from Quiet, several partners are also available as a companion, including a horse and the dog, DD. The horse can be useful when traveling long distances while DD's sharp senses can be used to sniff out enemies.

Aside from the Quiet glitch, other reports also mentioned that "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" players encountered several download- and server-related issues, such as the game stopping and going back into the download ticker after the prologue, and the loading screen looping back into a black one for too long that players need to restart the console.
