'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' new update can bring Quiet back as companion

Konami

Konami and Kojima Productions have updated their latest "Metal Gear Solid" offering with patch 1.06. Along with introducing new features and addressing issues found in-game, the new patch apparently also unlocks another nifty trick for players.

According to industry insider GearNuke, the update unlocks Quiet again as a probable companion for players.

Those who have played the game through know that once they defeat Quiet twice in the game, the second time being in a stand-off in Mission 40, (or, if not, after Mission 45) she will not become available as an asset afterwards. Polygon noted that Quiet being greyed out as a recruit is a disadvantage as she has many qualities and top-notch skills that make her an ideal companion in side missions and in the field generally. Aside from her marksmanship (she is a top-class sniper), she also excels at support and reconnaissance.

However, some players found out that as soon as patch 1.06 rolled out, they now have a chance to recruit Quiet back by replaying Mission 11. This mission, Cloaked in Silence, must be played over again, at least until the seventh time. After some time, going back to the same mission will have it tagged as [Reunion] Cloaked in Silence, and players who check their FOB will notice that Quiet is back, with her arsenal of researched weapons and items available once again.

It is unclear if this feature in-game is just an exploit, with Konami fixing it in the next patch, or if it is an Easter egg, an extra feature that the publisher wants players to discover on their own.

Aside from the option of bringing Quiet back as an ally, the new patch also adds new weapons and gears, as well as the option of building a third FOB in-game. Patch 1.06 also had platform-specific fixes, such as addressing the PS4 save game data corruption issues.
