Mexico had a terrible Copa America in June, which wasn't entirely surprising seeing as most of their top players never traveled to Chile for the tournament.
However, that means more pressure will be on them when their Gold Cup 2015 campaign starts in July.
Today they will play their CONCACAF rivals, hoping to put on a solid display and start building confidence and momentum to hit the ground running when things kick off in a few weeks.
Most consider the United States and Mexico to be the top two teams for the Gold Cup this year. Mexico were North America's most successful team at last summer's World Cup in Brazil, and that will help them believe they can go all the way this year in the CONCACAF competition.
However, Costa Rica have emerged in recent years as a very strong team and should be more than enough to give Mexico a stiff challenge as they prepare for the competition proper next month. Injuries have hit Costa Rica's preparations somewhat with Óscar Duarte, Bryan Oviedo and Keylor Navas all set to miss out. However, they will be confident that they can give as good as they get against Mexico.
