Miami Heat trade rumors 2016: Ray Allen return still possible

Ray Allen has been out of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for years now and no one knows for sure if the 40-year-old shooter has retired or not.

He last played for the Miami Heat in 2013, the same year the Heat fell short and lost to the San Antonio Spurs. He was one of the bright spots for the Heat that year, turning back time a bit as he tried to play chief backup to LeBron James who was still around.

Allen never re-signed and opted to take some time off. There were speculations he would return last year, but nothing really happened. Now, NBA followers are here again wondering if the long-range bomber would consider a return despite his age.

Allen had his issues with the Heat which include scheduling and rotation. This was seen as one of the reasons why he opted to stay out of the limelight, although there were already speculations of retirement.

With the NBA vet out of action for several years, his conditioning for the NBA style of play comes into mind. Not too many are convinced he is in game shape and a return would require him to work himself way back to playing form.

Regardless, the Miami Herald bares that he does have a standing offer, something that has been on the table since 2014. The deal has had added perks through the years, hinting that Allen is still in communication with Heat management. Unfortunately, nothing positive has come out of it.

With his style of play in consideration, there is no question that Allen can be an asset if he uses his pure shooting ability. It is something that most teams look for these days so Allen could be a fit.

With his age and years away from the NBA in consideration, could the Heat be serious in bringing him back at this stage?
