The whole world was saddened by the death of the former King of Pop, Michael Jackson. More than eight years later, Jackson has still been making a lot of money even after his death, as reported by the recently updated list of wealthiest people in the world.

In a compiled list by Forbes, it has been revealed that people are still interested in the King of Pop years after his death, as he is named the top-earning departed celebrity of this year. This is not the first time that Jackson topped the list, and is he has in fact repeatedly been the top-earning dead celebrity. Just recently, an animated Halloween Special was released on CBS featuring the artist's music.

This makes it the fifth time in a row, with a reported earnings of $75 million postmortem, which is still $35 million more than the number two spot now occupied by former golfer Arnold Palmer. In a report by CBC, it is stated that Jackson's postmortem success can be alluded to the release of the new greatest hits album titled "Scream," which was released in September this year.

Additionally, a special Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas as well as a significant stake in the EMI music publishing contributed to his posthumous wealth.

It is safe to assume that if there is a demand, then music companies and the entertainment industry itself will keep delivering material that can pique the interest of fans. The income of Jackson in 2017, however, is eclipsed by how much money he made last year. According to Money Control, Jackson earned an estimated $825 million. Other notable musicians included in the list are Elvis Presley, and Bob Marley.

It is quite unsurprising that Jackson's music is going strong despite the amount of time that has passed after his death. According to Brampton Guardian, Jackson died of acute Propofol intoxication. His death occurred just a few weeks before his "This is the End" world tour.
