As Michael Schumacher continues to recover from head injuries suffered in a skiing incident in December 2013, Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) President Jean Todt expressed the pain he is feeling about the condition of the racing icon. 

In a report by ESPN a few days back, Todt spoke about Schumacher and said his situation cannot be compared with Jules Bianchi. 

Bianchi, who was managed by Todt's son, Nicolas, passed away in 2014 after suffering head injuries at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. 

"For Michael is it different because he was like my family. When you have someone who is family, who is very close, when they are injured it is painful and you have to be with them," Todt stated. 

Schumacher is a seven-time Formula One champion and in five of those seven titles, he was with Todt who was the former team principal of Ferrari.

Todt was at the annual Sid Watkins lecture last week and along with the plan of visiting Schumacher on Friday, also asked Pope Francis to pray for the racing icon. 

"I asked him if he wanted to say a prayer and he happily accepted," Todt said in his interview with Radio Vatican. 

In line with visiting Schumacher, only family, close friends, and relatives have had the chance to see him since the incident. Such is why no significant news regarding his condition has been released. 

The people who have seen the 47-year-old racing icon and have been with him are saying one thing, the progress of his recovery is slow.

It is hard to digest this fact since Schumacher has gone through numerous medical procedures already and is still being attended to. 

But despite all that, no significant improvement on his health condition has been reported in over a year since he was released from the hospital and transferred to his home.
