Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo described the current situation Formula One icon Michael Schumacher is in as "terrible."

Montezemolo did not provide any further specifics with regard to the current condition of Schumacher, although he did talk about the legendary driver's impact not just on Ferrari nor the sport, but also on the people around him, Autoweek reported.

According to Montezemolo, Schumacher was "fundamental" to the success of Ferrari and to the entire team that surrounded him. He also described Schumacher as "extraordinary" and remarked that the driver could remain focused on the team and on the ultimate goal despite any challenges he had to deal with.

Montezemolo added that he admires how Schumacher's family has aided him in this time of need and that he hopes that the future will bring more positive news regarding the situation of the legendary Formula One racer.

Recently, another prominent figure in the world of motorsport, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president Jean Todt, also offered his thoughts on Schumacher's condition, the Telegraph UK reported.

According to Todt, Schumacher is "still fighting" and he urged fans to continue to support not just the former Formula One racer, but also his entire family.

Todt is a close friend both of Schumacher and the rest of his family.

Official news regarding the current condition of Schumacher is unavailable as his family has kept a tight lid on any and all information that may leak out.

Although recent rumors have suggested that the former Formula One champion has lost a lot of weight due to his injuries, the family has not made any official comment regarding the matter.

Schumacher is believed to be receiving regular treatment and medical attention at his home near Lake Geneva as he attempts to overcome the injuries he sustained from a skiing accident in December 2013.
