Microsoft announced three new smartphones after the Redmond-based tech giant bought the Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia.

On the second day of the IFA 2014, Microsoft took the wraps off the Lumia 830, Lumia 735 and Lumia 730. Although the handset fell behind other mobile phones in the market, they pack unique features that give them the edge in the market. Below are the five reasons why you should care about the new Lumia smartphones introduced by Microsoft under its belt.

Denim update

Denim is an essential update for Lumia smartphone users. This feature is composed of two components – improvements to Cortana and boost in the camera capabilities of the Lumia smartphones. Cortana is the personal assistant feature of Lumia smartphones. With the aid of the new update, there is no need to touch the phone as it will respond to the trigger phrase "Hey Cortana" even across the room. The other component is an update on the camera software that improved the speed of the shutter as well as the image quality.

Wireless charging

The handset also packs a wireless charging feature, which is absent in most smartphonesin the market, using Qi standard. This is to charge the mediocre 2,200 mAh battery pack.

Huge additional storage

The handsets may have comes with the average 8GB and 16GB internal storage, the smartphones come with a microSD slot of up to 128GB for additional external storage.

Selfie handsets

The Lumia 730 and Lumia 735 were named as handsets apt for Skype calls and taking selfie. The two lower-end handsets sport a front-facing camera of 5 megapixels, which delivers high quality images. Even the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes with 3.7 MP front camera.

Friendly price tag

Lastly, all of the Lumia handsets come with a friendly tag price. The Lumia 830 costs $430, while the Lumia 735 costs $285. The Microsoft-Nokia devices will be available for purchase this month.
