Microsoft has released its Edge web browser for mobile operating systems iOS and Android. It boasted some unique features that make transitions between browsing on a personal computer and a mobile phone smoother.

The Edge browser on mobile phones includes a "continue on PC" functionality that allows users to resume their browsing session on the Edge browser on their PC. To do this, the browser pings a URL to its PC counterpart so the user can load the same site on it.

The mobile version of the browser also lets users access their favorites, history, eBooks, and reading lists. Microsoft also added the new Roaming Passwords feature to the mobile app as well as a dark theme.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Edge mobile does not include tab syncing. So, users cannot sync tabs or history between mobile and PC browsers. This feature is already planned to be rolled out via future updates to the app and should arrive by next year.

For iOS devices, the Edge browser for mobile is compatible with the iPhone, but not with the iPad. However, it is expected that iPad functionality will also be arriving sometime next year.

The preview version of the Edge for mobile was released by Microsoft last month. Then, beta testers had to sign up to gain early access to the new app. Now, the official version is available for all compatible devices.

Edge browser for mobile is available for the iOS in France, U.S., China, and the U.K. The Android version, on the other hand, is available in U.S., Australia, China, Canada, France, India, and the U.K. Microsoft also plans to add more languages and release the app to a wider range of markets in the future.

Releasing the Edge browser for mobile devices marks Microsoft's transition to a new mobile strategy. It has essentially accepted the defeat of its Windows mobile operating system and is now focusing on helping Windows 10 users get their Apple or Android mobile phones in sync with their PCs.
