Microsoft Surface Book 2 Release Date: New laptop may be available next year with major update

With mostly positive reviews for the Microsoft Surface Book--which has been described by some as the best Windows laptop available in the market—technology enthusiasts are already wondering when the tech giant will release its follow-up to this device.

Those eager to use the Microsoft Surface Book 2, however, will most likely have to wait before getting their hands on this new laptop, which is believed to be part of new wave of devices to be launched early next year together with Windows 10's next major update.

According to a report from ZDNet, the Washington-based multinational technology company decided to push back the release of the latest update to Windows 10 called "Redstone 2"—thereby also affecting the launch dates of the new Microsoft-branded Windows 10 devices like the Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5.

While the delay may very well part of a business decision to attract more business users to use the Windows 10 platform, Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, citing unnamed sources, said the push-back can be attributed to the fact that Microsoft is "prioritizing and tailoring new features coming in Windows 10 largely based on what the Devices group wants and needs to showcase its hardware."

The same report said that while the Surface Book 2 will have to wait until next year, new devices such as the Microsoft Band, a Surface 4, maybe even a new Surface Phone can still be unveiled later this year.

Microsoft Surface Book 2, however, seems to be worth the wait. Techradar.com said that the new laptop will have an "even better screen," particularly with a 13.5-inch display and a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution.

This device may also reportedly feature better overall battery support. The Microsoft Surface Book currently provides a 4-hour battery in the Clipboard and an 8-hour battery in the base.
