The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is rumored to contain improvements in hardware and design. The second-generation laptop might sport a redesigned hinge, use Intel's latest Kaby Lake chip and offer a video resolution that can go up as high as 4K.

The latest rumors suggest that the Surface Book 2 will have a new design for its hinge. Many owners are getting frustrated with the Dynamic-Fulcrum hinge, which is installed on the first-generation model. Users are annoyed by the gap it leaves when the notebook is closed, it makes their Chiclet-type keyboard and display screen accumulate dirt. It also requires an additional step in order to detach the screen from the keyboard base -- a shortcut either on the screen, or by pressing down a dedicated button on the keyboard.

However, no information is currently available on what Microsoft will implement this time on the second generation of its device, but it is expected to look like traditional laptop design where no gap is visible.

Concerning the specifications, the upcoming 2-in-1 is rumored to be sporting the seventh-generation Intel processor known as Kaby Lake. There is only a slight difference when it comes to performance from the current Skylake, but the newer one will be natively supporting USB 3.1 and has 3D capabilities. Some sources say that the upcoming device will be able to support up to 4K resolution, which is a big step from the 3000 x 2000 pixels the current one has.

Previous reports also mentioned that the Surface Book 2 will be using the Redstone 2 version of Windows 10, which will be the third major update for the operating system and contains several structural improvements to the Windows OneCore and a new notification system within File Explorer.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is also expected to launch an all-in-one Surface series, which will go against the other manufacturer's similar offerings. It is rumored to be available in three different screen sizes, 21 inches, which offers a Full HD 1080p resolution and 24 inches and 27 inches offering 4K resolution, Express reported.

Microsoft has not offered any official statement concerning the Surface Book 2.
