Microsoft has just announced that it will be adding a new configuration of its newly released Surface Book workstation. This time, the new model will be targeted for gamers.

According to industry insider TechRadar, the new addition to the Surface Book lineup is a variation of its low-end model. However, instead of the built-in graphics unit in other Surface Book models, the new one has an additional GPU installed. This will make for a more graphics-detailed performance, and is targeted for the gaming PC gaming market.

In an additional report by CNET, although there is an additional GPU installed in the model, it retains its Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. It also has the same 128 GB of storage as the base model Surface Book. The new add-on placed the price range of the gamer-focused workstation at around $1,699. Around $200 more than the base model, this version is in-between the $1,499 starting price of the low-end Surface Book and the mid-specs, 256-GB storage/dedicated GPU version that is priced at $1,899. Meanwhile, the gamer Surface Book has the same price as that of another version, a base model with an upgraded 256 GB of built-in storage.

Microsoft did not confirm what type of GPU it added to the new Surface Book model. However, the company did state that the new graphics unit will have1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 high-speed memory. Meanwhile, Digital Trends surmised that the GPU, which will come with the new version, will most likely be the same as the GeForce 940M graphics card by Nvidia. The 940M uses the same Maxwell architecture and the same CUDA cores. However, it uses a lower GDDR3 memory unlike the high-speed unit in the new Surface Book.

With the addition of the new gamer-focused, low-end model, the Surface Book lineup now has seven configurations for buyers to choose from.
