Speculations linking the Lumia X to the rumored Microsoft Surface phone are starting to come up online.

Rumors claiming that "Lumia X" could be Microsoft's codename for the highly anticipated Surface phone began when leaked information from the company's Chinese headquarters accidentally mentioned the name of their upcoming smartphone product in a video explaining what Continuum is.

"Homemade Welcome Mobile phone Continuum, this function can convert your phone large screen projector and utilities. Use dock or adapter to connect to a TV or monitor, and then use your application on a larger screen and view your content," the translated video from Microsoft China explains.

"Upon completion, the file will be saved on your phone, you can continue working. Of course, you can watch videos, view photos, surf the Web and so on. Note: This feature requires a compatible mobile device is intended for use, for example Lumia 950/XL, Lumia Phone X and Acer Jade Primo."

Microsoft China later edited the description to omit Lumia X, which made gadget analysts suspicious about the upcoming device.

Continuum was described as a new technology that works on high-end phones, meaning that it can work with the company's flagship device. Since the only expected flagship smartphone from the Redmond, WA-based tech firm is the Surface phone, this could mean that Microsoft is currently using the name Lumia X to refer to their much-anticipated product.

However, a report from Inferse pointed out that it could be highly impossible for Microsoft to use the Lumia moniker on their Surface smartphone since the developers working for the Surface brand work separately from Microsoft Mobile, which takes care of the Lumia development after acquiring it from Nokia in 2014.

At the moment, Microsoft remains silent about the details regarding the Lumia X as well as the actual release date of the Surface phone.
