Tech company Microsoft is likely going to unveil three new phones this year, including the much anticipated Surface Phone.

Christian Daily reports that the Surface Phone, Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 will be simultaneously launched at the IFA in Berlin in October.

The report said that the three new gadgets are sparking anticipation due to their competitive specs and are likely to compete with Apple's upcoming MacBooks and iPhone 7.

There are also rumors from Windows Central that Surface will not necessarily take on its flagship rivals directly, but will instead be "the most secure and productivity-focused phone" around.

"In other words, it'll be the new BlackBerry rather than the new iPhone," reports Digital Trends.

In terms of design, the report said that the device is expected to be based on a unibody design made with an aluminium and magnesium combination.

The screen will feature a 5.5-inch phone with an AMOLED display, capable of producing a 1440 x 2560 pixel screen resolution, reports PC Tablet.

Another interesting feature is the possibility of Surface-branded accessories like the Surface Pen that is expected to be similar to that of the Samsung's S Pen, included with the company's Note series of phones, says the report.

In terms of price, Surface phone is expected to cost much more than an iPhone.

In 2012, the company launched the Surface range and in the succeeding years it added Lumia devices to its company's phone lists.

Chris Capossela, chief marketing officer for Microsoft has recently said that the company "should move forward" to make Windows Phone competitive.

He also disclosed that the company was working on a new mobile device that is a"breakthrough" and not another version of Lumia.
