Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date: 2-in-1 hybrid to be unveiled at Oct. 6 event

Press invitation for Microsoft's October 6 event.

Microsoft is gearing up for a big event next month that will focus on their Windows 10 devices, and it could include the Surface Pro 4, according to speculations.

The Redmond, WA-based tech giant recently sent out invites for their event, to be held in New York on Oct. 6. According to the invite, the tech giant will announce several exciting news about their Windows 10 product line. With this, some industry observers speculate that Microsoft will finally unveil their highly anticipated Surface Pro 4 hybrid laptop-tablet device during the event.

The rumors about the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 have been going around for several months, but gadget watchers were disappointed when the company did not include the hybrid device in the line of products they unveiled during the 2015 IFA event in Berlin, Germany earlier this month. They are hopeful, however, that the Surface Pro 4 will finally be launched in the company's upcoming event.

The specs of the next-generation Surface Pro device will reportedly feature several improvements over its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3. According to reports, the Surface Pro 4 will come with a larger display, longer battery life, an improved processor, and a better camera.

Earlier reports claimed that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will be released in two sizes. One bears the usual 12-inch screen, similar to what the Surface Pro 3 features, while the other is a larger 14-inch variety. It is also rumored to be equipped with either the Intel Core M or the latest Core i5 or Core i7 processors with the recently released Skylake chipset for faster performance.

The upcoming tablet-laptop product is also expected to come with the Intel RealSense 3D camera, which is compatible with the new Hello facial recognition feature on any Windows 10 device. The product is also believed to come with a fingerprint scanner and the latest USB Type-C ports upon release.

More information about the Microsoft event is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
