Microsoft Surface Pro 4 news: Does the Surface Pro 3 price slash mean Pro 4 is coming soon?

Microsoft has reduced the prices for Surface Pro 3, and according to several reports, this move may have something to do with the upcoming release of the new Surface Pro 4.

On Microsoft's online store, three variants of the Surface Pro 3 can be purchased with $150 off from the original price. The variants include the 256 GB Intel Core i5 and both the 512 GB and 256 GB Intel Core i7 variants.

Microsoft has been advertising Pro 3 as a great alternative to traditional laptops like the MacBook Air from Apple.

According to CNET, Microsoft slashed down the price for the Pro 3 Intel Core i5 256 GB variant by $150 in May.

The latest sale, on the other hand, began on the Aug. 4 and will last until Aug. 29; and this sale also slashes down the same amount for the models mentioned above.

Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch screen display with 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution. It runs on an Intel Core chip, which means that it has the processor, as well as the screen size, seen in traditional laptops.

Meanwhile, the successor Surface Pro 4 will reportedly have new features and more improved hardware specs that will surely entice customers to buy the new tablet.

There's no formal announcement on the launch date for Pro 4, but several reports stated that the device will be introduced in October this year.

This October release came as a tip given by The Verge's Tom Warren. It was previously reported that the Pro 4 will look like its predecessor, but Warren argued differently stating that the new device will be bigger, thinner, and lighter.

At the moment, everything remains as speculation and Microsoft still has to comment on the reports.

For those who cannot wait for the launch of Pro 4, they can simply go for the Pro 3 with the discounted price.
