Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date: Device to launch in June to take on Apple's new Macbooks?

The latest buzz about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is that the next-generation laptop hybrid will be released in June. Microsoft reportedly wants to steal the thunder from the new Macbooks that Apple is rumored to release in July.

There's no official information to corroborate this yet, but given the steep competition between the two tech giants, it won't be a big surprise that Microsoft will put out the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 in June.

However, looking at Microsoft's Surface Pro release history, this may be a bit of a tall order. The Redmond-based company came out with the Surface Pro 3 in June 2014 while Surface Pro 4 came a bit late in October last year.

Given the time Microsoft has to work on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, which is definitely shorter than before, a June release becomes a bit unlikely. Add to that a report from ZDNet that claims the new Surface Pro iteration won't be out until spring next year.

According to the tech portal, Microsoft will wait for the new breed of Intel processors called the Kaby Lake to be released. The units, however, will only be available by the end of the year, thus making a June release improbable.

Because of this, Microsoft is even postponing the release of the Microsoft Surface Book 2, the Redstone 2 and even the long-rumored Microsoft Surface Phone.

As for the specs of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, rumor has it that it will boast a beautiful 13.3-inch display with 4K resolution and a rechargeable Surface Pen, which is definitely an exciting and game-changing upgrade to an accessory.

The 2-in-1 device will allegedly come with a fingerprint sensor and a longer battery life courtesy of the Intel processor Microsoft will be using. Whether or not this will all be in the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, users may find out as early as June.
