Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date rumors: launch not happening in October; leak reveals impressive specs

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will no longer be released in October as users expected. Mobipicker is claiming that the 2-in-1 hybrid won't see the light of day until spring next year.

The Redmond-based tech firm is doing a lot of waiting for the laplet's most important components. Microsoft will be waiting for Intel's seventh-generation processors, known as the Kaby Lake.

The processors will help prolong the battery life of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 since it will be consuming lesser power while providing more on the device. It should also perform faster and with greater efficiency.

These next-gen chipsets will be available by the end of the year, so Microsoft will have to wait it out to be able to use these powerful components on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Mobipicker also reports that the device will come with a model carrying 16GB RAM as the device's top of the line offering. There will be versions with lesser RAM amount as well.

The publication goes on to claim that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 with a 4K display will be available as an option for users. One with a lower resolution, presumably 2K display, will be additionally be up for grabs.

For the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 to churn out the best graphics available, Microsoft will be using either the Nvidia Pascal or AMD Polaris GPUs. Just recently, the GeForce GTX 1080 based on the former was released and has so far impressed many. The lower-end GTX 1070 will be released on June 10.

With the hardware department taken care of, Microsoft's approach to the software side of things will be through the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10, which is currently in development.

The update won't be ready until next year so Microsoft is also patiently twiddling its thumbs for that one. It will be worth the wait nonetheless since Redstone 2 should help the company integrate more exciting and innovative features on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.
