Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date set for 2017; Hybrid device said to support 4k display, feature Windows 10 Redstone 2

The hype for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 can be measured by the amount of reports about its eventual release. As such, a lot of fans are now seeing this as a good sign, that this highly anticipated hybrid tablet will be launched sometime soon.

According to the University Herald, a lot of recent reports say that this device is most likely going to be released by October, since this tech giant has been known to consistently release its Surface Pro line devices around this time. However, it is also possible that come October, Microsoft will just announce this laptop-tablet's release date, which is most likely sometime during 2017.

The reason behind this is that Microsoft intends to give its rival Apple a tough competition, since the latter's Apple MacBook Pro 2016 is also rumored to be released during the same time frame. Also, a 2017 release date for the Surface Pro 5 could ensure that this new hybrid device will have the latest Windows 10 Redstone 2 update. Regardless, things will become much clearer once Microsoft gives the official announcement.

As for its features, Mobile & Apps says that the new Surface Pro 5 will have a 12.3-inch PixelSense display, which is the same as its predecessors. It will also have variants that could either support 2K or 4K display, which means that the latter will have an Ultra HD display, coupled by 16GB of RAM, 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front camera. It could also be possible for this device to house either an AMD or Nvidia Pascal GPU.

Also, fans are highly anticipating this device getting Intel's seventh-generation processors called the Kaby Lake. This codename is used for the 14-nm processor that will replace the SkyLake. Manufacturers and OEMs already have this, but the retail channel production is expected to be started at late 2016.
