It looks like Microsoft is battling Apple head on in the desktop and hybrid department with the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, which is set for a 2017 release to reportedly take on the iPad Pro 2.

The new iteration of Apple's tablet is not expected to be released next month, but it is expected early next year instead. Microsoft is reportedly releasing its next-generation laplet around that time as well.

Microsoft allegedly wants to wait for the Redstone 2 update of the Windows 10 to take advantage of the additional features it can offer to the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

The delay could also be because Microsoft is looking to be parallel with Apple's release schedules in order to properly compete with the iDevice manufacturer, not only with the iPad Pro 2 but with other products as well.

While waiting for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, Microsoft is apparently focusing on its venture to the desktop market for next month, the same month the new iMac computer is expected to arrive.

The Redmond-based software giant is looking to release its very first personal computer, being referred to at the moment as the Surface All-in-One (AIO) PC.

Whether Microsoft is taking the competition head on by releasing around the same time Apple releases its products remains to be seen, but a 2017 launch for Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will definitely pit it against the iPad Pro 2.

As for the specifications and features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, rumor has it that the two-in-one device will be powered by the Intel Kaby Lake processor.

It promises a faster performance and a lower power consumption, which last year's Surface Pro had problems with. The seventh-generation Intel chipset also promises longer battery life and enhanced graphics delivery.

Add to that an overall wonderful gaming experience, which means that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be a big treat.
