While the production of Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is reportedly in progress, reports claim that it might not be ready in time for Microsoft's scheduled event next month.

According to reports, the fifth-generation Surface Pro hybrid laptop may not be available in time for the upcoming Microsoft event on May 2.

But according to reports, the Redmond-based tech firm is planning to release a low-cost Surface device that will compete with Google's Chromebook product, while waiting for the Surface Pro 5.

Reports reveal the rumored affordable Surface device will feature the Windows 10 Cloud. The device is also expected to come with a quad-core processor like Celeron or something better, 4 GB of RAM, at least 32 GB of storage of 64 GB of storage if using the 64-bit system, an optional pen or touch-enabled screen, and a 40 WHr battery with fast eMMC or SSD.

Meanwhile, a previous statement from technology watcher Paul Thurrot on Twitter claims that Microsoft will still include the Surface Connect power connector on the Surface Pro 5. He also mentions that it will still use the Intel Kaby Lake processor. Also, he advises Surface Pro buyers that they should expect "nothing dramatic" in the highly anticipated 2-in-1 laptop product.

Also, reports claim that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come with two display variants that include a 2K and a 4K resolution. The device will also possibly arrive with a Surface Pen that normally comes with the tech firm's tablet products. But the Surface Pen will reportedly attach on the Surface Pro 5 magnetically, just like the feature from Surface Studio.

The upcoming device is also expected to come with the USB Type-C to replace the USB 3.0 port. It may also come with a Thunderbolt 3 support.

However, Microsoft has yet to confirm the rumored reports regarding the Surface Pro 5 and the upcoming low-cost Surface product in the coming days.
