While Microsoft continues to remain silent about the new flagship device in its queue, fans' speculations about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 continue to circulate in abundance. The Surface Pro 4, which preceded the upcoming device, was launched in October last year. Tech enthusiasts predicted an October release this year for the Surface Pro 5. But with no word yet from Microsoft, we are left to guess if the device's release may be delayed and why.

One possible reason, as Science World Report suggests, is that the tech giant is keen on ensuring the new laptop-tablet hybrid does not pose any difficulties for users. When the Surface Pro 4 was made available last year, users were disappointed with its battery performance as well as the issues with its stylus. This time around, it seems like Microsoft wants to put things perfectly in place before announcing the release of the new gadget.

Another possible reason why the announcement of a launch date is being held back is because the gadget maker is in the process of equipping the Surface Pro with its much-needed processor. MNR Daily reports that rumors surrounding the device suggest that it might run on either AMD's graphics processing unit, or on NVIDIA's video card. The downside, as the report recalls, is that since these units are mobile variants of a desktop edition, the power they support will be poorer when compared with the original.

As for the rumored release date, most reports, including this one on Mobipicker, speak of a 2017 release. But a few other theories suggest that the delay may only last until Apple launches the MacBook Pro 2016. Microsoft may then opt for a late 2016 release, making both the Surface Pro 5 as well as the Surface Book 2 available to compete with Apple's new device.
