Miguel Cotto still find it hard to believe that he lost against Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez last weekend, believing that the fight was close, as the score cards suggested.

Of course, everyone knows that the judges scored it lopsidedly, all in favor of the Mexican mainly due to his aggressive and power-punching style which many felt was pretty evident.

With the loss already in the record books, there is no word on what his plans are. Some have mentioned retirement while others have dropped names such as Timothy Bradley Jr., Andy Lee, and even Gennady Golovkin.

Of that mix, it may be safe to say that he doesn't want any piece of Golovkin for now, although all that could change once Triple G becomes a big draw, which would translate to more money on the table.

So how about a rematch with Alvarez instead?

Strangely, such has never been mentioned, although it may be because the WBC made it clear that the winner will have to face Golovkin next.

But what if for some reason the opportunity arises, would Cotto be open to a rematch with his prior conqueror?

Well, one has to wonder about how the fight turned out. It did show off something better if you compare it to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. While it was obvious that Cotto was outboxed by a young Mexican, there is reason on the end of Cotto to ask for a rematch to prove his point.

At a budding age of 35, the favor could considerably shift to the side of Alvarez in case of a rematch. But then again and with those odds, that should be more motivation for the Puerto Rican to work harder and probably come up with a better game plan against the young and explosive Mexican.
