May 2, 2015 could be a date to remember especially in the world of boxing. While we all know that this is the same date that Floyd Mayweather Jr. chose to possibly face off against Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez could be facing off too.

Alvarez' camp is actively pursuing the bout with Miguel Cotto as they try to recover from lost ground after Alvarez bowed to Floyd Mayweather Jr. And apparently, fighting Cotto is a good place to start. However, Cotto is in no hurry.

"I don't understand what's happening. I already granted Miguel Cotto a lot of things to make this fight happen. It's been more than a month, and Miguel Cotto hasn't signed the contract A Puerto Rican never ducked a Mexican fighter. Nor did a Mexican ever duck a Puerto Rican fighter. This is a classic fight for the fans" says Canelo during an interview from the Ring Magazine

However, Cotto is not responding since he wants to weight his options. While Alvarez seems like a good fight to consider, the Puerto Rican is also placing under consideration a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Another said fight is one against Timothy Bradley Jr. though no negotiations have been reported as of yet.

A bout between the two is not far-fetched considering a Mayweather-Pacquiao dream bout is nowhere near of materializing.

Hence, a Cotto-Alvarez fight seems more appealing although from the looks of it, Alvarez stands to benefit between the two. Should Alvarez pull off a win or at least a worthy performance against Cotto, the spectre of his defeat at the hands of Mayweather could be readily erased.

But as things stand now, potential matches for May 2 are interconnected. It would all depend on who Cotto, Mayweather and Pacquiao end up fight with.
