Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" AMA 2013 performance video: Awards show closes with Cyrus alongside cat background

Miley Cyrus performed her single "Wrecking Ball" at the 2013 American Music Awards on Nov. 24, 2013.

The American Music Awards ended with Cyrus' performance.

Cyrus wore a skimpy outfit with footage of a blinking cat behind her during her performance.

At one point during her performance, Cyrus became tearful as she belted out the lyrics.

Her performance today was a more measured performance compared to her recent acts.

Cyrus' performances at the MTV Music Video Awards in August and the MTV Europe Music Awards last month have both been highly controversial. In the latter, the 21-year-old smoked a joint on stage as she accepted her award for Best Video for "Wrecking Ball." As she walked up the stage, she rummaged through her bag and took out a joint which she then lit up.

Although her controversial stint was aired in Europe, it was blocked by American television networks and deemed inappropriate.

In August, Cyrus' raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs was also criticized by media outlets around the world. The singer danced provocatively against Thicke wearing a nude PVC bikini.

Her recent performances have erased the squeaky clean image of the former Disney actress who once starred as Hannah Montana, and was a role model to millions of young girls around the world.
