'Minecraft' coming to Oculus Rift with other titles

Players will be able to play "Minecraft" through an Oculus Rift when it releases next year. The popular sandbox game's Windows 10 version will be made compatible with the headset, which means that players can dig, build and navigate using the device along with an Xbox One controller.

Last year, Mojang, the developer behind the game, planned to collaborate with the headset creator Oculus VR to have the game work with the Rift. However, the game studio's founder Markus Persson changed his mind when he learned that Oculus VR had been purchased by Facebook.

"I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook. Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven't historically been a stable platform. There's nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me," he said in 2014 (via Telegraph).

"People have made games for Facebook platforms before, and while it worked great for a while, they were stuck in a very unfortunate position when Facebook eventually changed the platform to better fit the social experience they were trying to build," he went on to say.

But with Persson no longer associated with the company after Microsoft bought Mojang last year, the developer took the opportunity and once again conferred with Oculus VR to finally make this partnership happen.

Other than "Minecraft," there will be loads of games set to make a transition to virtual reality. Games such as "Land's End," "Bullet Train," "Smash Hit," "Gunjack" and the reboot of "Battlezone" will be given the Oculus Rift treatment.

There will also be 20 classic games coming to the headset, including "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Pac-Man," along with plenty more titles from Sega, Bandai Namco and Warner Bros.

Oculus VR is also working on bringing over 100 movies to virtual reality. The company is eyeing "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1," "Insurgent" and many more.
