'Mirror's Edge: Catalyst' release date: Closed beta announced

The upcoming "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" originally had a release date this month but publisher Electronic Arts delayed the roll-out to May. However, although the release of the much-anticipated role-playing title has been delayed, there is still good news for February as it was announced that the game will have its closed beta soon.

According to an announcement posted on the official "Mirror's Edge" website, the closed beta will go live soon as sign-ups went live for the test version. The closed beta will be a cross-platform version. This means that fans waiting for the game can get their first glimpses of "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin.

Although the closed beta announcement has yet to come out with a specific roll-out date, industry followers are saying that the test phase will release soon, since Electronic Arts already set up the sign-up site for players to register.

Meanwhile, aside from announcing the new beta, Electronic Arts also published a new story trailer for the game. According to Wired, the new footage, while considered to be a story-driven introduction, just gave a bird's-eye view of "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst," which might just be a way for EA to introduce the main protagonist without spilling much of the story.

The video shows main character Faith as she tries to evade pursuers by going through rooftops and other scalable places. According to the footage, the game will primarily be about Faith as she faces off against a tyrannical ruler named Gabriel Kruger.

The game itself is shaping up to be a richly detailed title, if the new trailer is an indication. According to Engadget, the footage carries a footnote saying the video was taken directly from in-game resources and was not polished up as a marketing piece. However, the video still looks graphically detailed and streamlined.

The full version of "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" is set to release on May 24.
