In the next episode of "Modern Family," Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill) and his wife Gloria (Sofia Vergara) throw a party for their son Joe (Jeremy Maguire).

The synopsis and promotional photos for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Dear Beloved Family," were released just recently, and they show Jay and Gloria greeting the parents of their son's friends in their home. Apparently, they are having a play date for Joe who is excited to have fun with his friends from school.

However, after a while, one of the parents notices something that Joe may have done to her daughter and takes offense to that. Jay intervenes and tries to explain that it was accidental, but the parent immediately takes her daughter away from the party. It remains to be seen what mischievous thing Joe did to his friend. Moreover, fans will know how will Jay and Gloria rectify the situation when the episode airs.

In the meantime, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) is rushed to the hospital by his family because of intense stomach pains. Gloria is the first person to admit him to the medical facility. She appears to be nervous and may have something to do with Phil's unfortunate situation. Phil's wife Claire (Julie Bowen) soon arrives to check up on him and shows her love and support. They hug each other while Phil holds a stuffed toy bear in his hands. It remains to be seen what caused Phil's dilemma and who was behind it.

In the last episode, Claire submitted a request to build a personal shed in the backyard, but it was denied. It turned out that her son Luke (Nolan Gould) forged a letter to deny the request because he wanted to have a batting cage instead.

"Modern Family" season 9 episode 12 will air on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
