Despite rumors that "Modern Family" will wrap up for good at the end of the eighth season due to low ratings, the showrunners said that the season finale will not double as the series finale, believing that the show will still be renewed for a ninth season.

Little is known about the season finale, only that it will feature the graduation of Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Luke (Nolan Gould) from high school. Prior to this, episode 20, titled "All Things Being Equal," will air on May 3. This will tackle women's empowerment, with Gloria (Sofia Vergara), Haley (Sarah Hyland), Claire (Julie Bowen), Alex (Ariel Winter), Manny, and Luke promoting the movement in their own ways.

Meanwhile, Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Phil (Ty Burrell) will disagree on how Joan, their parking lot attendant who is played by Niecy Nash, should do her job. Cam (Eric Stonestreet) will also become jealous of Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) because of his close relationship with Pam (Dana Powell).

Despite its many accolades and being considered as one of the most well-received comedies on primetime today, coming second only to "The Big Bang Theory," "Modern Family" is rumored to be in real danger of cancellation after its ratings significantly dropped on its April 5 episode, hitting its second-smallest audience since it started airing. The actors' contracts will end after season 7, making fans worried if a ninth season is still possible.

For his part, Stonestreet said that while "Modern Family" is already in its "twilight," he does not think the show will be canceled just yet. "I don't think the show's over yet. We're finishing up Season 8, and we'll see what happens. But I don't think there's any question that we all want to hit a nice, round number, hopefully of 10 years," he said to AdWeek.

"Modern Family" airs every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
