Additional charges were filed against a self-proclaimed Christian author who attempted to rob a local movie theater.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Hoover resident Britton Clayton Traylor came to the theater armed with a handgun, but was apprehended after an assistant manager of the theater tackled him. The incident happened at Carmike Lee Branch Theater on Nov. 30.

"I believe the manager said, 'Well, we don't have money in the cash drawers,'" Hoover Police Captain Gregg Rector told WBRC in an interview. "At that point, he pulled the gun and ordered the manager back to the back office where he ordered him to open the safe and empty the contents."

The assistant manager who tackled Traylor at the Carmike Lee Branch Theater incident was assisted by a good samaritan who helped the manager hold the suspect until police arrived.

According to WMC Action News, additional charges have been filed against Traylor, who claims that he robbed a movie theatre as part of his initiation into a Freemason organization. Police say that Traylor matches accounts and may be connected to several incidences of theft at the Hoover Target in June and November, and at Target on Highway 280 in November.

Traylor has been charged with one count of first degree theft of property, and two counts of second degree theft of property. The suspect is out after posting a bail of a $50,000 bond.

The incidences of theft at Target stores were linked to Traylor after police recovered a mask or wig from the suspect that matches described items used by a shoplifter spotted stealing products from stores. The products stolen accounted for a total of $5,933 in value. Some of the items stolen included 77 containers of Crest teeth whitening products, 49 boxes of other Crest products and four boxes of Front Line flea and tick medication.

Traylor's Facebook page claims that he is a New York Times best-selling Christian author and has written two books.
